7 Days in Burundi

7 Days in Burundi

Trip Overview

This seven-day route moves from Bujumbura's palm-fringed corniche to the central highlands around Gitega, threading together colonial architecture, salt-working villages, and Rusizi National Park's hippo chorus. Expect relaxed mornings on the lake, moderate day-hikes through tea estates, and an active climb to the Livingstone-Stanley Monument. Travelers taste charcoal-grilled mukeke fish beside the water, smell jasmine drifting from roadside tea stalls, and feel cool mountain air above the Congo-Nile Divide. The pace is moderate: two-night stops minimize packing and keep drives under three hours.
